Do I really need to take my medicine?

Okay, I have hypothyroidism and I take syntheroid. Its a medicine that helps me with my thyroid obviously. So, I can go like 9 days without taking it and it doesn't bother me, nor my body. It creates no problems for me. BTW I was born with only half of my thyroid.

Do I still need to take it? Because it becomes annoying taking it every single night. And sometimes I even forget.

let me put it this way. the way you feel is like a soldier who has been wearing body armour for ages and to such an extent that they cant see the use for it. or someone who uses a seat-belt (hope you all do) and one day decides that its purpose is lost.

its maintaining your health. let it do its job. hope you get better :)

Your Thyroid is a very complex and helps to govern many processes in your body. Not taking your meds can result in many different and potentially dangerous problems. This is a long term hormonal issue. Problems can crop up years from now that started with thyroid hormonal imbalance now. Take your meds!

I do the same thing. I NEVER take my medicine. Finally, I started taking it and I honestly feel soooo much better.

yes you should because you may make your problem worst if you don't take it that's why you went to the doctor in the first place so he helped you so you should do it. and if you are taking it at night put it beside your bed on the night stand. and that way you won't forget it. it's important that you take it. read up on the thyroid in the library. in a medical book. if the doctor told you to take the medicine i'm sure he told you why you have to take it. they don't give you medicine without telling you why you should take it, so take it.

Just because you can go for 9 days (that is not a long time) without it and you feel fine proves nothing. Many people can stop all types of drugs for 9 days or so but eventually the problems come back, often worse than before. In fact I bet if you took your medication daily, exactly as prescribed you would feel much better. After awhile of not taking you will will start to fell bad.

Your doctor, a person with extensive medical training, feels you need the medication.

A lot of people with many conditions commonly start a medication, get better, and decide to stop it because they think they are fixed or they just don't want to take it any more and it is always a bad idea.

Also, with respect, "taking it every single night" is not that much to ask. Just put a single pill or the pill bottle right by your bed and just as you get into bed take it. It is very simple.

I'm a very busy person in medical school and I have to take medication 3-5 times daily, a total of about 15 pills. And one in particular if I take it even an hour too late I will have problems because I have a sleeping disorder and I might fall asleep unless I take it exactly when I should.

I would trade situations with you any day.
