Just Diagnosed with hypothyroidism and am 23 year old Male.?
I Have had depression, anxiety and complete lack of focus and concentration for many years. Anytime i try to really sit down and get something done i can never remain focoused and alot of the time im all over the place. Since October of last year i started to get extreme fatigue and even typing on the computer would make my arms very tired.
The Doctor seemed to brush it off as just stress and told me my blood test was normal. After coming back 2-3 times he tested again and some level came back at 14 and perscribed me Levothyroxine.
I have just stated taking the medication but was wondering if its possible the psychological issues from the last several years could be related to this
Thanks!

Definitely! Hypothyrthoidism, also known as underactive thyroid causes depression, extreme tiredness, lack of concentration, grumpiness, constipation, loss of appetite but still weight gain, and muscle pains along with a slow heart rate and low temperature. This is fantastic news for you because it can be treated and these symptoms will all go. You will need to keep at the doctor tho. The main problem people with hypothyroidism suffer from is cautious prescribing. Underactive thyroid is not dangerous while overactive thyroid can be. This means doctors are rightly anxious not to overprescribe but wrongly allowing patients to settle for a somewhat improved quality of life when enough careful adjusting of meds can restore them to full health. You will probably lose some weight quite quickly if you need to so you need to be careful to keep the doctor aware of weight loss because this will make the dose stronger. You must also avoid any antiseptics with iodine and not eat kelp because this will give a false reading on the regular bloodtests you will need to have now. If you experience palpitations or excessive sweating call the doctor because this would indicate your thyroid levels have gone too high. Search underactive thyroid for a patient friendly explanation.
