Medical history of heart probs, diabetes and thyroid issues?

My father died in sept 2009 and he had congestive heart failure, bad lungs, a non exsistant thyroid and diabetes.

Now should i have me my son(7) and daughter (8) tested for all of this because of the family history?

my daughter already has thyroid probs and is on medication for it. And i am female age 32

Im just scared because of the family history on both sides of the family and if something is wrong im hoping to catch it early

To catch a problem early, you're going to need to be tested regularly.

Go to your doctor and talk to them. They went to medical school and completed years of residency. People on Yahoo answers did not.

there is diabetes in my family (my uncle has it) and i get checked 4 times a year by my gp, recently we found out there is something to do with the bones being weak (cat remember the medical term) which was found just before my grandmother died. which due to a problem with my joints im now being tested for although it tends to be more for the older generation (im early 20s) so yes check as much as possible to be safe!

A bad thyroid isn't too much to worry about, many people have thyroid problems, the solution is to simply give your body what your thyroid is supposed to give to you. Currently there is no cure for it though.

I suggest you try to keep your family on a low sodium, low fat diet and get your family out of the house for some exercise often. Meaning don't eat out too much, and eat plenty of fruits, vegetables and grains. This will help keep the cholesterol of your family in check, and the fat levels in your family in check too. Meaning the heart will have a much easier time avoiding problems.

The perks of eating like this, your wallet gets fat instead of you and your family.

Being in your 30's, and the fact that you have had two children, I suggest you get yourself checked for thyroid imbalance often. My mother obtained a thyroid problem while I was born, and I "inherited" it as well.

Sadly, I do not know very much about the lungs.

My family has a history of heart probs..my mother and grandmother died from them BOTH at the age of 47, so i've been pretty freaked out also! I have 2 kids and i've been afraid for them. I was having horrible anxiaty for quite awhile after my mother passed last july. I am feeling much better now becaue i looked into my families past lifestyle choices. Both smoked and drank heavy, and both ate un-natural foods. I changed my lifestyle, no more smoking for me and i eat ONLY organic and healthy natural foods..same for my children. The chemicals foods are made with are awful, and can cause these issues, they are just as bad(if not worse)as cigarettes and acohol! I also do not take man made meds, only natural remedies, and i take daily vitamins, same for my kids. I personally take something called Green Vibrance, they are capsules made from many different veggies and and superfoods. They promote healthy immune systems and heart health. I do not use any un-natural household cleaners anymore either. My family has'nt even had a cold since all of this, and past issues are now gone! Hope this helps!!! :) Sorry to hear about the loss of your father, i know how you feel about being scared, i was frantic after my mother passed worried about mine and my childrens health. II now feel much better and i hope you will soon also! I wish your family a long wonderful life!:)
