Please help with IUD (Para-guard) question!?

I went to the gyno and got an exam and my cultures tested yesterday. He said everything looks good and after my culture results come back (in a week), he could insert the copper IUD. I have not had any children, I am 24 and do not want kids for at least 2 years or more. I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and wanted to go hormone free, since I had major problems with the pill and its hormones.

I already know to take 800mg of ibuprofen, to have a ride home, and take the day easy. I know it will hurt worse since I have not birth any children.

Is their anything that might take me by surprise? What is your experience? What can I expect? Any advice before, during, or after the procedure?

Answers:

I have the Merina IUD which has hormones in it.The insertion was not too bad,I experienced a bit of cramping afterwords.Just TRY to go to your "happy place" during the insertion, your DR should have a nurse or assistant available to assist you if you are in need.Good Luck!

I once had a lady-friend who referred to IUD's as "IOU's" as in " I Owe You " a baby. She considered them to be the instrumental cause of many womens inability to conceive after several years of IUD use.
