What can be the cause of my thinning hair? Could it be my thyroid?

I'm only 23, and I've always had thick and curly hair, and now It's thinning, and I have no volume in my hair it's flat. It's thinning and some fall out, could this be a temporary situation...could It be my Thyroid or something?
