What to expect after thyroid surgery?

Will you feel normal again? Does it affect your mood for the better or worse? Do the medication work and are they expensive? Is it painful? Do you gain or lose weight before or after they put you on meds? Would like to know what to expect from the time you enter the hospital and the time you go home to heal and what to expect years after the surgery. Thanks.
