Aside from conventional techniques to determine thyroid dysfunction, there are alternative tests which you may use. Take a look and determine whether they could be of help in your case.
Your doctor looks into all possibilities when it comes to detecting your body problems. For thyroid problems, aside from the conventional methods, alternative tests may also be made. You may wonder what these tests are all about and how essential they are in giving you the results you may or may not be expecting for your thyroid gland.
Alternative tests come in several forms. They are considered unconventional and lead to many controversies. Not all medical practitioners adhere to the use of these techniques and yet some have considered them holistic enough to preclude a thyroid disorder. Take a look at some of the most unconventional tests to detect a thyroid problem.
Unconventional thyroid problem diagnosis
Here are some of the unconventional techniques used by some medical practitioners. These ones are deemed to be acceptable in the field by some experts.
• Iodine Patch Tests. This process is done with no injections and no other materials except for iodine. The iodine is placed on the skin. The result is determined on how quick your skin absorbs the solution. The quicker the absorption, the more deficient you are with the component. Iodine, as we all know is essential for the functioning of the thyroid. If you have lesser iodine in the body, this simply means you have a thyroid disorder.
• Saliva Testing. The saliva testing is used to eliminate the pain of blood testing. Most practitioners using this technique believe in the efficacy of saliva in determining diseases of the body including that of AIDS. The saliva is said to help detect the hormone levels in the various glands of the body.
• Urinary Testing. This had not yet grown popularly in the world especially when it comes to the detection of a thyroid problem. As a thyroid hormone test, around 10 ml of urine should be collected within 24 hours then submitted for laboratory testing. This technique measures T3 and T4 hormones and their ratio with each other. This test is somewhat costly and is particularly done in Europe.
• Basal Body Temperature Testing. This test should be conducted early in the morning prior to going into the day’s hectic activities. The temperature should be measured before you get out of bed. If the thermometer shows a result lower than 97.8˚F all the time, this simply means that you are having some problems with your thyroid functions. However, a lot of practitioners contest to the quality of this technique. If you use basal body temperature testing as your reference, there is still a need to get your self diagnosed through other tests.
These techniques may be utilized as preliminary tests to thyroid problem diagnosis. You still need to make sure of your situation by going to your trusted doctor. If you think the results given-off by the alternative tests are not reliable enough, it is wise to go for traditional testing. Visit your doctor for more information on these mentioned techniques.
