Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is one of the types of thyroid disorder that is usually caused by hypothyroidism.  It is a thyroid problem that affects a lot of people in the United States.  There are several causes and symptoms associated with this disease.  Find out the most common ones to help you determine whether you have this thyroid problem or not.

Causes of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis

Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is a kind of thyroid problem that originates from the irritation of the thyroid gland.  It is commonly known as an autoimmune disorder or a condition in which your body assaults your thyroid gland incorrectly due to the fact that it is mistaken as strange kind of tissue.  Although the real cause is not yet known, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is considered as a disorder that runs in the family, and is connected to a group of autoimmune disorders like Type 1 diabetes, and celiac disease.

This kind of thyroid disorder usually affects women more than men and commonly begins during adolescence.  The blood that is extracted from the person shows an enhanced amount of antibodies to the enzyme, known as thyroid peroxidase.  Such is a kind of protein that is created in your thyroid gland.  When antibodies work together with the enzyme, irritation starts to build-up in the thyroid gland.  This further result to damage thus the person may suffer hypothyroidism.  The latter is known as an insufficient supply of thyroid hormone in the thyroid gland.

Signs of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis

In general, the signs or indications of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis are the same as the symptoms of hypothyroidism, and is commonly mild at first.  There is no particular sign for this kind of thyroid disorder because its symptoms may be the same to some kinds of body ailments.  There are times that it may be mistaken as a sign of aging.  The symptoms will only be experienced at the time when the condition is already at its serious stage.  Most of the time, these manifestations are associated to the lingering metabolism of your body.

The most usual symptoms you will experience if you have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis are:

·         Feeling of over-exhaustion or gloominess.

·         Slight weight gain.

·         Susceptibility to cold temperature.

·         There are times that all you want to do is to sleep.

·         The texture of your hair will become dry and frizzy.

·         You will also experience difficulty in bowel movement and you will suffer muscle spasm most of the time.

·         Your skin will be dehydrated.

·         Your cholesterol levels may also multiply, and your concentration will be affected.

·         There are also indistinct aches and pains, and soreness in the lower extremities.

In serious cases of hypothyroidism an individual may experience bulges around the eyes.  The heartbeat becomes sluggish and there is a decrease in the normal body temperature that may lead to heart failure.  In other words, hypothyroidism may result to a life-threatening condition called myxedema coma.

It is necessary that hypothyroidism disorder should be carefully diagnosed for an immediate treatment.  This kind of thyroid disorder can be simply and totally remedied with thyroid hormone replacement. In some cases, this needs hospitalization and fast remedies like injection of thyroid hormone.
