Just like other diseases in the body, early detection of thyroid nodules may be manifested through different signs. Take a closer look at the symptoms of these lumps in the thyroid gland.
Thyroid nodules are not always easy to detect. It is for this fact that you must be guided well by a lot of facts regarding the formation of these lumps. A good way to deal with the situation is to gather information on the symptoms of thyroid nodules.
Aging, for one, is considered contributory to the formation of the lumps in the thyroid gland. However, if you know how to take care of the area properly, there is no way that the disease will be graver in the future. If you have an ample background on the occurrence of thyroid nodules, you will know how the sight may be prevented at the very least. As the saying goes, better late than never.
Symptoms of thyroid nodules
Detecting thyroid nodules is not that simple. A lot of people may never feel pain in the area at its onset. This is one of the reasons leading to the fact that even if you already have them, you would not know they are there. However, there is no need for you to despair. There are manifestations linking to the appearance of these nodules like:
• Hyperthyroidism. This is actually one of the problems occurring in the thyroid. This is a situation wherein your thyroid produces too much hormones that it may no longer contain. If the cells in the thyroid nodules are very active, there is a great tendency that it will over-reproduce thyroid hormones exceeding the requirement needed by the body on a daily basis. If you have a condition such as hyperthyroidism, have your thyroid checked by your doctor.
• Pain. As mentioned a while back, pain is not felt by all patients having thyroid nodules. Though this may be the case, there are still reports that clients do feel that the area is somewhat experiencing burning sensations that are too hard to handle. The pain actually goes up to the jaws of the mouth or may even extend farther to the ear.
• Swallowing difficulties. In instances where the nodules are too large, there are great chances that it may compress the windpipe (trachea) or even that of the esophagus. When this happens, difficulty in swallowing is a usual complaint you may hear from patients.
• Shortness of breath. This experience is associated with swallowing difficulties. You may have some trouble grasping for breath because of the fact that the thyroid nodules may block the passageway where air may flow.
• Hoarseness of the voice. If the nodules are affecting the larynx, there is a possibility that you will have some complains on the way you speak. Since the voice box is affected, there is a chance that your voice will be affected.
Now that you know the different signs associated with the occurrence of thyroid nodules, it is easier for you to have yourself checked by your doctor. Although you may rule out the fact that these signs may not really be due to the build-up of lumps in the gland, you must be alarmed. Once you are encountering such symptoms, please visit your doctor immediately.
